Global Outreach
The Republic of China on Taiwan is a sovereign state that maintains its own national defense and conducts its own foreign affairs. It has full diplomatic relations with 23 countries and substantive ties with many others. It is an active member of 32 intergovernmental organizations and their subsidiary bodies. As its economy advances, Taiwan has assumed the role of a major humanitarian provider making effective contributions the world over. To that end, President Ma Ying-jeou has based the country’s foreign policies on the philosophy of “viable diplomacy.” More information on the ROC’s foreign relations here.
